One of the things we’ve always tried to do at Oddyssea is to make our activities informative and fun. With our November featured activity, we think we might have hit the nail on the head: Fortune Pearl.
Each freshwater oyster has been specially cultivated to insure that there is a pearl inside. But, you have to open the oyster to determine the size, shape, and color of your pearl. Now, since pearls can be valuable, we think of these as a “small fortune.” But wait, there’s more, we also wanted to inject some fun into the activity so we also include a cookie like “fortune” hand harvested from our resident oracle, Zoltar the Great.
Once you have your pearl and your fortune, package them up in a micro glass bottle with a cork and you’re good to go!
Oddyssea Outside Garden is open weekends throughout the school year (weather permitting) and we offer many different activities and adventures each week. Come on over for a visit!

It’s difficult to believe, but Pumpkin Festival is upon is once again. Yes, that time of year when orange rules and 200,000 of our closest friends come to visit Half Moon Bay for the Pumpkin Festival.
This year, we’re going to do something a little different from our prior Festival years. First off, Oddyssea Inside, the shop, will be closed on October 17/18 during the Festival. However, the Garden, Oddyssea Outside, will be open for the entire Festival 9a-5p both days and here’s what we’ll be doing:
We’re pretty excited by the line-up and hope you are too. As a reminder, the Garden runs on the Doubloon system. Doubloons purchased previously are always good in the Garden (as are Doubloons purchased at the Festival valid for future usage.) At the Festival, we will be selling 2 packs for $6, 4 packs for $10, and 8 packs for $20. All activities are 2 Doubloons (Cannonball Run uses two racers for 1 Doubloon each) Drinks and Candy are 1 Doubloon, and Activity Kits To Go are 8 Doubloons.
We hope you come out this year and get your Pumpkin On! Look for the Jolly Roger flying in a garden with a shipwreck to find us (or, use a boring old GPS and punch in 601 Main St.)

A few months ago one of our visitors suggested we look into work of Christopher Marley and we’re thankful for the recommendation. Mr. Marley creates stunning installations using natural products like insects and shells. Once we saw his work, we knew we wanted to feature his work in the shop at some point.
Suffice to say, that point is now. Through the end of the year, we’re hosting a half dozen works featuring sea shells and insects on the wall of our Create Room inside the shop. We encourage you to come check out Marley’s work first-hand; while the images are compelling, they pale in comparison to the in-person experience.
The shop is open 11a-5p Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday and 10a-6p Saturday.

We are honored and delighted to be able to host Sam’s Chowder House’s Chowder Mobile Friday July 31, 2015 for Passegiatta, 6-8p. If you haven’t experienced the culinary delights of the Chowder Mobile, don’t walk, run to the Oddyssea Garden and get your chow on. This food truck was voted “Best Food Truck” by the folks at Bay Area A-List in 2015 and we can tell you, that title was earned and well deserved.
Fresh fish and chips, lobster rolls, Po’ Boys, calamari, and of course, delicious clam chowder are on the menu. Read more about what’s typically available here at the ChowderMobile web site. We had the good fortune to have the Chowder Mobile in the garden in May for a private event and found the food delicious and the crew a bunch of fun.
What could be better than great food from Sam’s, a stroll along Main Street in historic downtown Half Moon Bay, and all the fun activities and adventures offer in our garden? We hope to see you on Friday July 31, 2015 so you can experience the Chowder Mobile first-hand.
Please note: The Passegiatta Passaporto is valid at Sam’s on Highway 1, but cannot be used with the Chowder Mobile.

What’s 20 feet tall, looks like something Rube Goldberg might have dreamed up, very noisy, and can provide you with a great upper body workout?
Cannonball Run of course!
Oddyssea’s latest addition will be available for a sneak preview tomorrow night during Passegiatta from 6-9p. Come on down and take a spin (literally.) It is a race, so it’s best to bring a friend. If you’re under 12 years of age, you’re going to need a spinning partner on your wheel too.
That’s tomorrow, June 26th, 6-9p during Passegiatta.

Local maritime author JoAnn Semones will be launching her fourth book, “Pirates, Pinnacles and Petticoats: Shipwrecks of Point Pinos and Monterey Bay.” in the Oddyssea Outside Garden on Saturday, April 18th at 6-7:30pm. Her prior titles include “Shipwrecks, Scalawags, and Scavengers,” “Hard Luck Coast,” and “Sea of Troubles.” A work of JoAnn’s you might not have seen yet is the “Odyssey of the Oceane” which is the story of the ship wrecked in the Oddyssea Outside Garden. The story has been carefully stamped onto copper plates mounted on the stern of the Oceane.
We’re delighted to host this event and hope that you will pick up a copy of “Pirates, Pinnacles, and Petticoats” either at the launch or at one of our fine local independent book sellers. We love every chance we get to engage with JoAnn and can tell you this is a chance not to be missed. JoAnn will be offering her latest novel for sale at the event and will read excerpts from the work. If you ask nicely, she might even sign your copy!
When: April 18th, 6-7:30pm
Where: Oddyssea Outside Garden, 601 Main Street Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

One of the things we’ve lamented in our 3 years of operation in downtown Half Moon Bay is that the town just goes “dead” around 5pm. That’s good for neither locals nor visitors. A group of businesses have partnered with the Half Moon Bay Chamber to create a series of opportunities to make that better this summer. The last Friday of each month will now feature an event called Passegiatta (an Italian tradition of the stroll after drinks and dinner.) Along with many other businesses, we’ll be open until 9pm on these Passegiatta nights and we’ll do something fun to celebrate each month. You can get all the details below.
Just the Facts:
EVENT NAME: Passeggiata (pronounced – päs-sÄd-ˈjä-tä )

PURPOSE: To create a fun evening open to locals and visitors alike and highlighting the businesses of the Coast.
WHAT: A restaurant and retail event along the Coast once monthly during the summer that encourages patrons to visit several restaurants and/or shops.
WHEN: Last Friday of the month, May through September from 6-9pm (May 29, June 26, July 31, August 28, September 25)
WHERE: From the Harbor to Cameron’s this year.
HOW: Patrons purchase a Passaporto good at participating restaurants and retail stores.
