Smash a Geode

Smash a Geode and examine what's inside at Oddyssea in Half Moon Bay

Geodes are secondary geological structures formed when water flows through cracks and crevices in rocks depositing minerals, specifically Calcium Carbonate. Over millions of years, crystals form in these holes and encapsulate a mystical, hollow, crystalline world. A world you can only see when you open the rock to see what’s inside. Each geode is unique.

At Oddyssea, we have a dedicated geode station equipped with safety glasses, a stable platform, and a hammer to give you the fun and adventure of smashing open your very own geode. Our experienced staff are onsite and can help guide you toward the optimal breaking experience. Once you have your geode open, you can examine it with a magnifying glass or microscope. Gather the pieces up, place them in a burlap treasure bag, and you’re good to go.

Not able to make it to our activity and adventure area? No problem, we also have a Break Your Own Geode Kit available at Oddyssea Online.
