Love Letter in a Bottle

January 29th, 2015 | Lesley

Create your own Love Letter in a Bottle at Oddyssea in Half Moon Bay for your Valentine

Flowers or Chocolates? Meh. Neither. Those are very standard, very boring choices. Don’t just settle for empty calories or dead plants, express yourself creatively and uniquely by composing a personal message to your beloved and providing the finished product for them to cherish and/or launch.

To make this even more fun, we’ve got great paper, we’ve placed an Underwood typewriter for your use, and all the best fixings to make your Love Letter in a Bottle fun, attractive, and distinct. This activity will be available through Valentine’s Day, so you’ve got time to make one for your sweetheart.

Also, we have a special Valentine’s Day Terrarium Kit inside starting this weekend – the Love Letter in a Bottle is a great addition to this terrarium if you want to step up your Valentine’s game to a higher level.

The Full list of Activities for this week include: Kaleidoscope Kit, DIY Dog Tags, Wearable Worlds Terrarium Necklace, Electric Bicycle & Metal Detector Rental, Mining Flume, Trina’s Sweet Shoppe, Break your own Geode, Earth’s Treasure Necklace, Terrarium Buffet – standard and Abalone Sea Terrarium, Mason Jar Lantern, and Sand Art.

We hope to see you this weekend!

Kaleidoscope Kit

Create your own Kaleidoscope at Oddyssea in Half Moon Bay, California

In 1815 Sir David Brewster started experimenting with light polarization and in the course of that research he inserted mirrors into a tube and viewed through the mirror tube with a lens into various objects. The resulting patterns were beautiful and led to the christening of the kaleidoscope (from Greek, “kalos” is beauty, “eidos” is to be seen, and “scopeo” is to view or examine – thus a kaleidoscope is beauty to be seen.)

Predictably, we don’t just want to view the beauty at Oddyssea, we want to provide an opportunity to experiment with the kaleidoscope concept and for people to be able to create their own. And then change things around so you can create the effect you want to achieve and decorate your instrument to reflect your own personality. Not only are Kaleidoscopes our featured activity this weekend, they are also an elective option for Parties.

The Full list of activities: DIY Dog Tags, Message in a Bottle, Wearable Worlds Terrarium Necklace, Electric Bicycle & Metal Detector Rental, Mining Flume, Trina’s Sweet Shoppe, Break your own Geode, Earth’s Treasure Necklace, Terrarium Buffet – standard and Abalone Sea Terrarium, Mason Jar Lantern, and Sand Art.

We hope to see you this weekend!

Corporate Team Building at Oddyssea

January 20th, 2015 | Lesley

Since we’ve opened the Oddyssea Outside Garden, we’ve hosted a few Corporate Team Building events. The participants have strongly suggested to us that this is a good option and that other people might want to host their Corporate Team Building Event at Oddyssea too. We know a good suggestion when we hear one, so we’ve taken a little time to assemble a brochure that outlines our Corporate Team Building options.

If you don’t want to download the brochure and simply clomid clomiphene want to view it real-time, scroll down to see the brochure panels. If you are interested in exploring how a Corporate Event or Team Building Event could work in your situation, please contact us.

Create your own Dog Tags at Oddyssea in Half Moon Bay

Updated: March, 2015 – New materials and stamps!

Make your message permanent; hammer it into metal. Yep, that’s what we’re doing this weekend, we’ve got an ad hoc metal hammering shop in the Oddyssea Garden. Imagine the message you want to capture and share, select your dog tags, then put on some safety glasses and hammer it right in. If you can hold a hammer, you can capture your message for posterity.

Not feeling it? Then one of our skilled artisans will help you get it right. It’s noisy and fun. Come give it a whirl.

There are now 2 different typefaces available and many different object stamps. In addition to the original aluminum tag and chain, we’ve now added copper, brass, and stainless steel to the line up. Come make one for yourself or as a gift, they’re fun!

Welcome to 2015 everyone!

Here’s the news in a nutshell: We will be closed Monday January 5th through Friday January 9th for maintenance. Yes, Mike does feel like the man in the image to the right when performing maintenance on a complicated beast like Oddyssea. 🙂 Starting January 10th, we shift to Winter Hours. If you’d like more detail on the Winter Hours, read on.

For our Inside shop we’re making a slight modification to our Sunday-Thursday hours starting at 11a and closing at 5p. Friday and Saturday will remain our standard 10a-6p hours. The shop continues to be closed on Wednesdays.

For the Outside garden, we will be open Friday and Saturday 10a-6p or Dusk, whichever comes first. On Sunday we’ll be open from 11a-5p or Dusk, whichever comes first. The garden is closed Monday-Thursday except for Holiday Mondays and President’s Day week.

In the Spring, we will extend our hours and in the Summer we’ll really extend our hours going forward. Stay tuned for additional information on those changes as they occur.
